Fjord is looking for a passionate, experienced
leader to join our team as Design Lead. In this player/coach role, you will
help lead product research and design by guiding and developing a talented,
driven team of UX, UI designers and user researchers, and collaborating closely
with other client product owners, business owners and development team leads.
You will lead a dedicated design and user research team but will be part of a
large cross-functional agile product team and will own all aspects of the
design and user research process.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Design for a variety of projects under the guidance of
the Design Director

+ Design and execute user research programs

+ Create clear web and digital experiences for primarily
government clients

+ Work closely with both external clients and internal
cross-functional teams on projects that range from a few weeks to a few
months in length

+ Mentor all design team members and encourage their
growth and creative development

+ Own the day-to-day management of the designers assigned
as direct reports

+ Provide feedback on design team for mid-year and year
end reviews, including opportunities for their creative development and
improvement of technical capabilities

+ Identify new tools and processes to help evolve the
capabilities of the team

+ This role works on-site with dedicated client studio
team 4 days/week, in DC Fjord studio 1 day/week

What You Have (Basic Qualifications):

+ Minimum 6 plus years experience delivering interface design solutions for various clients

+ An expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and design/prototyping
tools like Sketch, Invision, Mural, JIRA/Confluence

+ Experience conducting user research using a variety of
research tools and techniques

+ Experience leading/managing others on a team

+ Strong client communication skills

+ Formal training/certifications in graphic design,
visual communication or related fields

+ Experience
at a senior-level management: leading
large design teams, large product teams or design domains

+ Passion for managing and mentoring designers

+ Deep understanding of user-centered design methods especially
related to digital products and the ability to work at all levels of the

+ Experience developing and evolving design systems

+ Experience designing mobile-first and for responsive websites

+ Experience with user research throughout the product lifecycle,
incorporating data from multiple sources into decision making

+ Team leadership

+ Agile experience (Kanban,
Scrum) required

+ Strong client management

+ Understanding of visual
design, Interaction design and User research disciples and how they work
together ideally with a strength in one area

+ An excellent
communicator with strong presentation skills: you are able to share design
direction, vision and rationale with stakeholders and senior management

+ Motivate and guide the team
to create designs that keep the work at the forefront of UX design/establishing
new best practices

+ Model and promote a positive
and highly collaborative team culture

+ Organized
and expeditious; always deadline aware; you are process-oriented and take pride
in planning well, and delivering what you promise

+ Agile
Certification: Certified Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Product Owner

An active security clearance or the ability to obtain one may be required for this role.
